2008 NCWGA Futurity

In order to meet the needs of the membership and participants, the 2008 Natural Colored futurity program has been adjusted with two important changes for this year’s event.  This year only one futurity division will be offered with both “home raised” and “purchased” ewe lambs competing together.  Additionally, the age requirement has been raised from 18 to 21 years of age.

The program is designed to increase youth involvement and enhance the market for Natural Colored breeding sheep.  Juniors will compete throughout the year with futurity nominated ewe lambs for cash prizes.

Juniors can purchase fall or spring born ewe lambs directly from a breeder’s farm or at public auctions where Natural Colored sheep are sold.  Juniors can also raise and nominate their own fall and spring born ewe lambs to exhibit at shows to gain points.  All participants must be members in good standing with NCWGA.

All ewe lambs must be nominated by the breeder.  Every breeder must pay a $20 per ewe lamb nomination fee, complete the nomination form and submit it to Doug Gehring, Futurity Chair, in order for the ewe lamb to gain points.  All ewe lambs must be registered with the NCWGA registry to be eligible for nomination.

Juniors must be no more than 21 years of age and not under 9 years of age on December 31st of the current year to participate.  Within 14 days after each show, the junior must complete a point form and mail it to the futurity chair to compete for the futurity premiums.  Separate premiums will be offered in each division.

NCWGA provides this program to encourage more juniors to get involved with Natural Colored sheep. The key to success of any program is participation!

Complete rules, nominations and point forms will be available on the NCWGA web site at www.ncwga.org.  For more information about the NCWGA ewe lamb futurity, contact Doug Gehring, NCWGA Futurity Chairman at (573) 886-9417 or dougkg@centurytel.net.
